Medical Emergencies in the Workplace: Those First
Crucial Minutes
Training employees to respond correctly to a medical emergency
in the workplace is the purpose of this video. Why should you
take the time to teach emergency first-aid procedures to your
employees? Because 2,000,000 people are injured on the job every
year. Many die or are permanently disabled because the first ones
to respond aren’t prepared to help the victim. This video, which
was written in conjunction with the American College of Emergency
Physicians (Dallas, Texas), will show your employees how to respond
to a medical emergency. It is no substitute for formal medical
first-aid training. In fact, one of the goals of this program
is to get people to see the importance of knowing first aid so
that they’ll enroll in first-aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation
(CPR) courses on their own.
NOTE: We suggest that you view "Medical Emergencies
in the Workplace" (approximately 20 min.) before showing
it to your audience; however, if time doesn’t permit you to
do this, reading Section I of the leader’s guide will let you
know what to expect. It outlines the video, emphasizing appropriate
emergency response procedures to specific accidents. You’ll
find it helpful when someone asks you a questions during the
discussion period. Section II gives you a discussion format
to follow. It also provides you with an introduction you can
read to your group and questions you can use to lead your discussion.
On the back page, you’ll find a Viewer Log that can be used
to keep track of the dates on which "Medical Emergencies
in the Workplace" is shown and who the participants are.
